Congratulations are in order for NFEA North East Member TEDCO who’s Berwick WorkSpace has been recognized as one of the region’s most innovative renovation projects at the 2009 RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) North East Renaissance Awards.
The office space was shortlisted for a Regeneration Award beating off stiff competition from multi-million pound projects in County Durham, Northumberland, Teesside and Tyne & Wear.
Eventually, it came second in its category behind the £66 million Middlesbrough College development and holding its own against other much bigger investment projects including the £35 million Gateshead College project.
The workspace, which houses 35 offices plus meeting and event facilities, was given a ‘Highly Commended’ label by event judges for its combination of award winning architecture, traditional materials and the latest technology.
The accomplishment follows the success of the building last year, when it was awarded the United Kingdom Business Incubation (UKBI) Newcomer Incubator of the Year award, the national award for business incubators.
Commenting on the awards, Andrew Martin, Berwick WorkSpace Manager said, “This recognition for the centre is absolutely fantastic. The fact that the judges acknowledged it as a prime example of a successful regeneration project highlights the impact that Berwick WorkSpace has had on the local community.”
Chairman of the Judges, David Furniss, said “The level of the competition was so high this year that the judges also made a number of commendations, projects which in other years could have been outright winners.”
